| Q: What do I need to schedule a physical therapy appointment at SOL? A: It’s an easy process. You may see a physical therapist in the state of California for evaluation purposes without a referral or prescription. You can see a physical therapist for prevention, wellness and fitness. However, for an injury or bodily dysfunction, you must have a medical diagnosis made before physical therapy treatment. We work with your referring physician as a team to make sure physical therapy is appropriate for your condition. Please contact your medical provider to get a physical therapy referral. Your medical provider will need to see you for an appointment to evaluate your disorder. Your insurance company may accept prescriptions from a medical physician, chiropractor, or physician’s assistant. For you to see other practitioners outside of physical therapy in our office, it is not required that you receive a medical referral. This includes acupuncture, Pilates conditioning, or massage therapy. However, for these services to be likely covered under your medical insurance policy, it is suggested that you receive a referral from your medical practitioner. You can download our physical therapy referral form Q: What shall I expect on my first visit? A. We will ask you important questions regarding insurance coverage. Please bring your insurance card for us to copy. We will need information regarding your ID, Group Number, birth date and that of the insurance subscriber if not yourself. We will call to verify physical therapy insurance benefits. We suggest that you do the same. An initial P. T. evaluation appointment time usually takes approximately an hour. Approximately 15 minutes is required for initial intake forms to be completed. (Plan to be in the clinic for about an hour to an hour and a half for your first visit.) Subsequent visits should take between 45 minutes to an hour. To save time you can download our intake forms here. During the initial evaluation the physical therapist will examine you and formulate a plan for further treatment and/or home exercise program. Realistic goals and specific time frames to achieve them will be discussed. All of our physical therapists are trained in manual physical therapy techniques to assist you in your recovery from injury or dysfunction. This requires that they spend time palpating for joint movement, tissue restrictions and muscle function. You will be required to perform exercises and these are followed through with our certified athletic training staff who work in conjunction with our manual physical therapists. Please dress comfortably and bring clothes like you were going to the gym to work out. We have lockers for your personal items. Directions to SOL >> |
