"SOL cured me of a back problem in 1992 and a tennis elbow in 1996-1997. I was particularly impressed by their use of ART to treat tendinitis of my right shoulder and upper arm following an injury in 1998. Actually, I’d had a "bad shoulder" since it was injured in the early 1960s. That injury was treated by injections for pain relief, but nothing was done to correct the structural damage. By the mid-’70s there was significant atrophy of my right arm when compared to my left (even though I am right-handed). Now, thanks to SOL’s expertise, I feel that my shoulder is as good as it would have been if it had never been injured." Dawson Leonard, retired attorney

"SOL has helped me with so many injuries, from car accidents/shoulder problems to repetitive stress injuries due to computer work. But I think the best illustration of their work was with my back problem. I had back surgery eight years prior to seeking their help. Though surgery had helped, the health of my back vacillated from okay to awful. I finally realized that just because I knew how to train, didn’t mean I knew everything about fully recovering from a severe injury. With their ART treatment and developing a new training program and lifestyle suggestions, I was finally able to get back all of my strength. Two years after the treatment, I am more fit now at 38 than I was at 25. I no longer lie around the sofa over the weekend to try to let my back recover, just to have it in total spasm by week’s end. As I’m sure you are aware, getting rid of long-term pain has been nothing short of a new lease on life. I thank them so much for their help." Marilyn Curry, MBA, business consultant

"As a competitive athlete in the sport of Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Racing, great demands are placed on my body, especially back and shoulders. Due to a shoulder injury at the end of my prior season, I had to drop out of two major competitions, one which was a world championship ultra-distance race. After approximately ten sessions of ART coupled with strengthening exercises, I began to have hope for future participation in the sport I’ve loved and been competitive in for 20 years. My pain disappeared and my flexibility and strength returned. A year later, I just successfully completed the first of the top two races I missed last season and I’m now on my way to the world championship from Molokai to Oahu, Hawaii. I recommend ART for athletes and non-athletes alike. I attribute my successful recovery to SOL. Their expertise, complete knowledge and application of ART techniques and their loving care for their patients is unsurpassed. ART equals results." Val Collin, massage therapist and personal trainer

"I had been hurting for over 13 months. After four different therapists, I had almost given up hope. I was preparing myself for an operation (fusing my vertebrae 4, 5 and 6 together). After six weeks of Active Release Technique and SOL’s support through rehabilitation, my arm, neck and shoulder pain had decreased immensely. I feel much better. Forget the operation." Larry Ybarra, US Postal Servic

"I came to SOL unable to move my head and to wash my hair with both hands! Through their relentless and deep stimulation of my injured muscles and nerves in the neck, shoulder and chest area, my robotic movements are now a thing of the past and my hair gets the attention it deserves. SOL’s techniques are like a wake-up call to the entire body, mind and soul. Since working with them, I have made major decisions in my life, inspired by a renewed appreciation for my health and physical well-being. They are like an exorcist of the muscle: in reminding the tissue of the pain it endured and in challenging it, the muscle seems to be encouraged to overcome the trauma. After the initial soreness following a treatment, peace and calm settle in. My experience with SOL has taught me to listen to my body, to be fiercely determined — yet patient in the recovery process, and not to be afraid to push myself a little harder every day." Claudia Lenschen-Ramos, translator

"SOL and ART facilitated a breakthrough in my healing process. By releasing my arms, shoulders and neck, they opened my body and mind to a recovery from the chronic pain of repetitive strain injury (RSI)." Lisa Micheli, graduate student, UC Berkeley

Sports and Orthopedic Leaders are so much more than fantastic physical therapists. They are world-class healers, positive and progressive thinkers, and are not afraid to strive for the highest goals. In my case, they did what many doctors and health care professionals thought was unrealistic and impossible. In record time, they rehabilitated me, and made it possible for me to attain my Olympic dreams, which I thought were lost forever due to a debilitating spinal injury. They began working with me immediately after my being discharged from the hospital. On my first visit, they instilled a hope and confidence in me that had been completely shattered due to my severe injury. They knew exactly how to challenge me; at the same time keeping me safe. They designed a very personalized rehabilitation program that gave me confidence, and to my great surprise, had me training on my bike in one week. In less than one year from my horrific back surgery, I was competing as an athlete in the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia! I thought I would never be able to race my bike again, but thanks to their expertise, competence, tenacity, and willingness and desire to work with me against all odds, I was able to live my Olympic dream. Thank you SOL PT, you are extremely great at what you do! Maureen Kaila Vergara, Two-time Olympian, Professional Cyclist

"Weighing 230 pounds and standing 6’3", I’ve been a serious amateur bodybuilder for the last 8 years. Now that I’m in my mid-30s, muscle, ligament and joint injuries are much more common than in my 20s, and regardless of age, if you push heavier weights to increase size and strength, injuries pop up, often when you’re making your best gains. Recently my rotator cuff has been giving me huge problems, generating lots of pain and actually stopping my workouts. I visited five outstanding specialists in orthopedic medicine and each had the same advice: either quit or have arthroscopic surgery.
Since all of the recent medical studies point to the incredible benefits of exercise and since I love lifting, the first option was out of the question. The second option seemed the only answer except that several lifters in the gym have had the procedure on both shoulders, and after six months of rehab followed by maybe six months of relief, are experiencing the same problems again. That’s where SOL and the Active Release Technique comes in. It’s the option that I had been searching for: ongoing relief without the downtime and tribulation of surgery. Through this technique, they actually use their hands and fingers much like a scalpel to repair muscle adhesions inhibiting free movement. By using a process that breaks up the adhesions, much like Rolfing but much more specific, the muscle is able to repair and enjoy a free plane of movement. Relief is nearly instantaneous, but a maintenance program must ensue. It’s the win-win option that I had been searching for and I recommend SOL and their techniques without reservation!"
